One of the things I intend to do where it regards ensuring my data lasts a bit longer than my platforms is to put together a little "computing time capsule" consisting of:
- A Windows XP installation CD
- An Office 2003 installation CD
- A DVD containing a QEMU image of a complete install of the above, including the following extras:
...and whatever else comes to mind. I am betting that QEMU will stick around for long enough for this being usable (say, ten years or so from now), if only because the disk image format is more or less documented and it already runs on many platforms.
As to stuff created on my Mac, and although I'm pretty skeptic about OpenDocument, I will see whether it is feasible or not to use it without becoming an Open Formats Zealot.
