Okay, here’s something I’m curious about.
I can install the Mandarin speech synthesis module on the phone, but I cannot browse Simplified Chinese pages or input text (I can find no way to add Mandarin text input, nor – even after hours of googling – find any way to add suitable fonts to display those pages).
Can a European Nokia user even think of adding these to a device without re-flashing the thing?
And even if re-flashing were feasible, can I get the languages I want? I need Portuguese, English and Mandarin support, and it seems that even if I found an APAC release for my device, I’d lose Portuguese support.
Failing that, I’d try getting a Chinese edition of Opera Mini to run, but last time I tried that on a European device it also lacked the right fonts…
And no, I don’t want some third-party software to do this, unless it’s Opera Mini. I’d like to think that Nokia had the forethought to envision someone doing this…
Oh, yeah, and this will also be an issue as far as the iPhone is concerned. Should be fun to try to sort out…
Update: Thanks for the continued feedback. I now have some Chinese fonts working, and have moved the whole thing to a separate page 60_60, which I will update from now on.
