26.1

Our worldwide usability nightmare continues, and I have thoughts:

  • macOS window corners are still rounded in too many different ways (my last count was five different styles, was hoping for a 20% reduction at least).
  • the does not improve appearance or readability as much as I expected (on the Mac–on the iPhone I can now read some of my home screen notifications again).
  • there is no mention in the release notes of the ages-old “Spotilght forgets shortcuts or documents you invoke every day” being finally fixed.
  • I am still seeing deleted messages getting “stuck” in Mail smart folders until I rebuild the mailbox.
  • there still isn’t any sort of official iOS virtualization support, because Apple would rather dumb down the Mac than make the iPad truly smarter.

All in all, it’s hard to see how these “.1” releases might eventually stop being the release you should wait to upgrade to (and yet, every year I end up upgrading on day one, because I am a glutton for punishment).
