Notes for August 5-11

There isn’t a lot to report this week, other that I had a few setbacks at work and decided to re-focus on reading and doing some hardware projects to decrease my screen time.

This entailed, among many other things:

  • Peering at dumps of both Ethernet and USB traffic.
  • Spending another hour debugging the SK1’s latest firmware upgrade–the timelapse functionality appeared to be halting the printer mid-print for some reason, so I disabled and unloaded it from the running image.
  • Doing some tedious bits of de-soldering and re-soldering because I ordered the wrong kind of pin headers.
  • Rummaging about entirely too many drawers looking for that one piece of gear I know I stowed away three weeks ago.

I also added a few things to my side project list:

  • Starting to hammer out piku’s roadmap towards Caddy, which feels like a thing that should happen.
  • Find a good way to speed up embedding creation when using sqlite-vec on low-powered ARM devices (comparatively, using BM25 and FTS is so much faster it’s not even funny).
  • Building a pipewire-module-xrdp RPM so that I can install it in rpm-ostree distributions without hassle.
  • Doing a full end-to-end re-organisation of my drawers and storage space so I can at least pretend I know where everything is.

Writing continues unabated, though. In fact, I have far too much stuff to write about just now.
