After yuzu and Citra, the last working Nintendo Switch emulator is now officially gone.
Fortunately, I had the forethought of writing a release mirror script that was keeping local copies of the latest 5 releases (which I’m also using to also automatically download OrcaSlicer and custom CAD software builds that are squirreled away in weird repositories) and I know that some people had gone the extra length to actively mirror the git repositories of every emulator they used, so… I have faith that Nintendo’s whack-a-mole game isn’t over yet.
As far as I’m concerned, though, and given that I am quite enjoying slowly trying to finish Breath of the Wild in glorious 4K (my kids have already finished both BOTW and Tears of the Kingdom, but I have lagged way behind), I will be safekeeping all the binaries.
Furthermore, we will move full-on to PC gaming with Steam family sharing (the AceMagic AM18 is quite likely to move back into the living room next weekend).
After all, investing time and money on console games that have such a limited shelf life and are created by a company that insists on destroying its own history (remember the 3DS?) feels like a fools’ errand, and I’m definitely not keen on getting another Nintendo console ever again.
