Well, this is very interesting–one of my TVs is apparently on the list, so I’m quite looking forward to it. Right now I’m using a homebridge
plugin to control it, but it would be great to have native HomeKit integration.
Also, props to LG for adding value to their products after the sale. In a world of planned obsolescence, this is the best possible reason to keep buying their products.
(I’m considering getting a couple of new 4K monitors for my office, so…)
Update (2020-09-03): This was too good to be true. LG back-tracked on it for 2018 models, claiming it was a mistake. In the meantime, some 2019 models now have access to the Apple TV app, but I haven’t been able to verify if there is any added HomeKit functionality. There shouldn’t be any technical limitations for any of their models over the past 3 years…
Update (2020-09-07): Confusingly, LG has now issued statements to the contrary, and there are apparently 2018 models where the Apple TV app is now popping up. Let’s see how this pans out.
