K750i

The K750 is the rumored "Clara" design, with Bluetooth 1.2, a 2.0 Mpixel camera and am externally-accessible Memory Stick slot. Basically an updated .

Pluses

  • 2.0 Mpixel (1632x1224) camera with auto-focus, a decent CCD and good macro mode
  • RDS-enabled radio (usable without a headset, but you have to plug it in - it's the antenna)
  • charging (yay!)
  • Bluetooth 1.2 with HID profile
  • Now works as plug-and-play storage without drivers in
  • The usual SonyEricsson UI, decent XHTML browser, SyncML client, etc.

Minuses

  • Proprietary connectors for power, data, headset, etc.
  • Media player needs better playlist management.
  • Screen layout (title bars, service indicators, soft keys) make the browser look cramped and small (again, UI decorations take up too much screen real estate).
  • Still no way to choose a smaller font for either the UI or the browser.
  • Depending on operator branding, "Send To..." menu is cluttered with useless options.

Officially supported by Version 2.1 (88.0), but cannot dial or send SMS from Address Book (a bug that is getting pretty old by now, and that prevents a lot of advanced uses).

This is apparently a mistake by , since this hint states that Address Book support can be enabled like so:

  1. Quit and backup your Address Book app, etc.
  2. Control click on the Address Book app, select Show Package Contents, then navigate to Contents -> Resources.
  3. Control click on Telephony.bundle, select Show Package Contents, then navigate to Contents -> Resources
  4. Open ABDeviceCommandSets.plist with Property List Editor (or a text editor to change the XML in a more primitive way)
  5. Find this array in the ABDeviceCommandSets.plist: Root -> 2 -> ABDeviceModelStrings ... you should see one string entry here: K700. Add another string entry with the value K750.
  6. Save and quit
