I've just started going through my e-mail and RSS feeds again, and I'm amazed at the way the debate about municipal wireless broadband is going over in the States, with continuous lobbying on both sides of the fence.
Maybe it's an European thing, but if any municipality over here started deploying any sort of public wireless broadband, the first question on people's minds would be along the lines of -
Why spend our tax money on frilly technology that only a minor percentage of the population can benefit from when there are still potholes on the streets?
I guess that pretty much sums it up.
In the interest of full disclosure, I work for a telecoms operator and architected our national Wi-Fi offering. I would still think the same if I didn't.
