A fellow switcher (thanks, Ricardo!) pointed me to this post on mono-devel-list, where David Morford explains how he got Mono running under Panther (and the state it's in right now). Benjamin Reed (he of KDE fame) chimed in a bit later with a set of patches for autoconf and automake.
While this doesn't mean Mac OS X is anywhere near being a fully-fledged .NET platform, it surely makes you wonder how long it will take...
