Exactly one year ago, Unity’s former CEO shot the entire company in the foot and caused a massive exodus of developers to Unreal and Godot (for which I am grateful), and their new CEO has finally come around to undo the damage and restore some sanity to their ecosystem (better late than never, I guess).
This is good news. I mostly liked Unity and might go back to fiddling with it if I ever find the time, but to be honest Godot is a much better fit for my kids’ projects and I love the way it’s such a small, nimble engine that you can download and run on just about anything.
But I just have to thank them for having effectively bolted a jetpack onto the Godot community, because it’s been a wild ride and I’ve learned a lot playing with it over the past year.
Also, they apparently went to the trouble of removing/redirected the former announcement–but the Internet never forgets (and if you’ve ever wondered why I like adding screenshots to my link blog, this is why).
