A nice excerpt from the Economist that probably explains why I walked into a bunch of bookstores this holiday season and failed utterly at buying books as gifts - the stuff on display was so limited and cliché (not to mention old, since decent translations to Portuguese of “interesting” books are few and far between) that I couldn’t find anything that would make for a good gift for most people I had in mind.
