Everyone will go and say ‘Ha! A Windows App Store!’, but I distinctly remember attending a presentation (back in 2003 or so) mentioning a purported roadmap for Windows Update that was meant to do precisely that, from the moment it was put online… Third parties and everything. Thing is, we didn’t really have broadband back then, and everyone thought “It will always be cheaper to ship on a CD.” How times change and yet remain the same…
