One of the reasons I got into computing in the first place was the graphics. Raytracing has always been a hobby of mine, and with today's CPU power, I can have some real fun with it.

Since I dislike most 3D modeling tools and prefer running batch jobs across several boxes, I tend to prefer script-driven tools:

  • POV-Ray, the most popular (free and cross-platform) ray-tracing program.
  • MegaPOV, an enhanced version with several extras.
