I'm beginning to develop a theory that good things tend to happen on weekends - however, to avoid any form of karmic re-balancing, I'll keep it to myself for now.
Nevertheless, today I went and picked up my Canon/EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM (it arrived three days ago, but that I wasn't able to pick it up until this morning).
Expect more photos soon (of somewhat varying quality as I work my way through the lens range) and a better writeup in a few weeks. Since I can only shoot on weekends and Xmas shopping conflicts with carrying around a big, hulking lens, it will take a while to form an opinion.
But if you value first impressions, well - I'm pretty damn impressed. And you all know by now that it takes more than a few iotas of coolness to impress me...
And speaking of coolness, fluxiom hit my RSS radar this afternoon. For a Rails application, it looks amazing, and I hope it's not just a hosted solution - I'd probably look at using it for my own stuff otherwise.
In the meantime, my request for adding a couple of toshiba_acpi patches to Fedora got refused, so I went and did it myself. Anyone wanting to take this and merge it with the mainline Linux kernel is welcome - I don't know how to go about doing it.
