I never had a C64 (I was more of the Sinclair persuasion, starting with a ZX81 kit) but I used the original C64, which at the time in Portugal was very much a rich kid’s computer.
I also set up more than my fair share of emulators and have been keeping track of the attempt at bringing back Commodore, but the pragmatist in me can’t help but wonder what this is for (other than to satisfy unbridled nostalgia) at a time when computing has changed so much that even the Amiga (which is another completely different kettle of fish) would be hard to revive successfully.
But being halfway through my own revivalist phase (with a small scale SE/30 replica already 3D printed and a Mac Classic in the works), I think I get the appeal.
If you have the cash, interest and most importantly for me, the actual room in your life to set one of these up and enjoy it, having an official FPGA recreation of the C64’s quirks seems like a great idea–except for the RGB lighting, which was never a part of any future I was promised…
