I thought this was worthy of note not just because of the overwhelming success it seems to be having but also because it’s so visually gorgeous that I’ve actually been watching multi-hour YouTube play-throughs.
Besides being visually stunning and refreshingly free of in-game monetization gimmicks, another reason I like it is that it feels a lot like an expansive open world game (even though it’s really not).
The cultural angle is also fascinating–I read a few Western adaptations of the Monkey King tales, but the story arch that it’s written against comes through as something I’d love to get further into, so as both a game and a cultural icon it’s now at the top of my Steam wishlist (although I will likely wait to see if they can sort out Xbox distribution first).
And no, of course it isn’t going to be running on Apple hardware…
