Even though the article could be a lot more detailed, I hope it gets enough exposure to bring this topic back on the agenda. Not that multiple years of complaints have had any sustained effect, but it would be nice to prevent stuff like the custom cursor memory leaks in Monterey, clean up the mess that is Time Machine, re-think the entire desktop notification approach, etc.
As this sprawling thread on Hacker News points out, there is an overall feeling of neglect and change for the sake of change in many aspects of Apple’s software experience, and it isn’t as if they don’t know.
(And you can say whatever you want about Windows shipping the same Control Panel icons for the last 20 years or so, but at least they don’t impair daily use.)
