Even though this is super neat, I keep wondering if we’ll ever settle on a wireless projection standard. Miracast is still not supported on the Mac, Chromecast sort of works with everything but requires Chrome (and is subject to the fickleness of Google product roadmaps) and Apple has zero interest in making AirPlay an actual open protocol, so we’re still effectively stuck with the VGA cable as the (crummy and overworked) default for using a projector.
Honestly, I think that Apple should just add Miracast support to macOS and iOS and be done with it (it’s not that different from AirPlay) and live up to their “full wireless” and “just works” monikers. But no, they have to think different, even if it inconveniences their business users—some of them will eventually buy Apple TVs, but those of us who travel (and present) a lot still have a crummy, dongle-dependent experience.
