It’s always fun to read about this again every year.

FWIW, they’ve had plans for it from the start. It’s not “an open secret”, it’s just painstakingly obvious (and there were plenty of scattered references to it in docs, patent submissions and even firmware releases). There’s just no real benefit from it for them.
