I remember Telemate vividly, just as I do my first 2400bps/MNP5 modem, hopping on to unprotected Cisco routers and, later, stacking banks of US Robotics modems in one of the first national ISPs. Ironic that I should be posting this from a mobile phone with more CPU, storage and bandwidth than one of our original POPs…
