The dumbing down of iWork‘13 is worrisome indeed.
I haven’t spent more than 30 minutes inside Keynote‘13, and I already feel it’s far less useful than the previous version. It’s not just the UI, the dumbed down inspectors, or that it looks like a damned toy, but rather that it goes out of its way to provide misleading affordances to garish features I don’t need rather than let me tweak the finer details of a presentation.
As to the extinction of AppleScript, I can only hope it’s temporary. It’s hugely depressing to open Automator and see an overwhelming number of Microsoft Office actions against seven iWork actions (all of which are from Keynote, and nearly useless).
