Back in the WAP days we did loads of traffic sniffing, and this sort of thing was happening already on what were essential dumb phones… The fun part is that it only takes a couple of clicks (and a decent packet sniffer) for you to do it yourself. Go on, fire up Internet Sharing and have a go over Wi-Fi - you’ll have endless fun, and likely be terrified of what your phone is sending over the air on public hotspots…
