I agree with them both. The reason I have comments on blog entries alone (and not linkblog entries like this one) is that people complain about not being able to comment on larger pieces of text because they’re used to instant gratification and don’t want to bother looking for my e-mail address - besides, I might actually reply to their e-mail, which they’d rather avoid. As it is, Disqus mails me their comments, I reply (and moderate) via e-mail, don’t have to put up with comment spam, and everyone’s mostly happy. And yes, I did think about removing comments during the latest redesign - turning them off for links and setting up a comment policy was the first step.
