Fraser nails it, as far as I’m concerned - the bulk of the computing industry has spent so much time up its own navel rigging up baroquely obtuse self-perpetuating lists of features that it can’t deal with making things usable.
I’d add that that’s one of the fundamental differences between mainstream computing and mobile - in the mobile world, companies spend a lot of time considering how people will interact with the products and services (the results aren’t always perfect, but at least we’re long past the point where you just take a phone off the box and simply start using it…). Less, as always, is more. More work shaving off unnecessary bits, but also more in terms of usability.
