A New Kind Of Science is now available online (free registration required). I think of it as The Book I Never Seem To Finish, but I’m only halfway through — it’s not that good, and not that bad either. Just amazingly dense.

Using Xnest in Mac OS X — I always loathed it, but if you don’t like
quartz-wm
(or find it obnoxious to mix X11 with Aqua) you can easily keep X11 apps inside a tidy little window. -
It looks like you can use third-party soft synths with GarageBand. Hmmm. I wonder if TiMidity++ can be grafted in.
