Rui CarmoA Steve Jobs venture that set out to redefine exactly what a “workstation” was, churning out the famous NeXTCube and a “pizza box” workstation (both of which became known as “black hardware”). As it happens, the first Web server ran on a NeXTCube.
The NeXTSTEP Mach-based operating system (and its BSD overlay/persona) were the forefathers of Mac OS X and inspired a whole new set of UI and development paradigms. Part of the clean, efficient UI was cloned as the Window Maker window manager, and Objective-C started its ascent as a popular (if controversial) programming language.
